2008
- PICNIC SITE AND WALKING TRACK
The
Green Corps team refurbished a picnic site on the banks of the Minnow
river at Paradise.
Tables and
gravel were donated by Forestry Tasmania, cement was donated by
Cement Australia and the labour was supplied by the Green Corps
team.
The team cleared
a short loop track from the picnic site, through the bush and across
an inlet to the river, creating a footbridge to facilitate access.
Also installed on the site was a hitching rail for the benefit of
riders, as the site is on the route of the Tasmanian Trail.

WEEDING,
FENCING and RE-VEGETATION
The
Green Corps team undertook a number of weeding, fencing and re-vegetation
projects in the catchment.
These included
tackling Spanish Heath at Gowrie Park and clean up work on Gorse
after a mechanical 'muncher' had done the bulk of the work.
The team installed
approximately 500m of fencing at O'Neills Creek and planted native
trees in the riparian zones. There were many more such projects,
assisting landowners with fencing and re-vegetation projects in
the catchments.
SURVEY
WORK
Part of the
team's work also included survey work in the catchment. The team
learned about water monitoring and tested samples at each of the
sites that they were working, to contribute to MRRCI's own water
data.
Other information
that they recorded was about the weeds in the catchment and noted
any rare flora or fauna. This was all part of the educational componenet
of the 6 month project which complemented the on ground activities.
