Reducing weed threats to Mount Roland and the Tasmanian WHA 2018-19

Mt Roland Weeds

Mount Roland Rivercare was successful in its grant application to the National Landcare Program, and funding of 29k has been approved for the next 12 months.  Scope of works under the grant
includes:

  1. Revisiting and controlling all known weed sites around Mt Roland (as per our mapping data).  (Timing Sep – Dec). This will include ongoing followup control of Kunzea ericoides in the Gowrie Park area (Nov/Dec).
  2. Works will also extend to new areas, starting with whole of catchment digital weed mapping for the Minnow Catchment.  With weed mapping in place, we will then be in a position to identify the weed works of highest priority. (Mapping before end of 2018)
  3. As far as funds permit, new priority weed sites in the Minnow Catchment, identified through this mapping, will then be controlled. Works in the Minnow Catchment will require negotiating permission from land owners to firstly map weeds, followed by control of priority weeds.  (Weed control works flexible between Jan and July 2019)
  4. Three public weed working bees will also be part of the grant.  The first of these was held in October in the Gowrie Park area.
